World Breastfeeding Week event at Springfield City Hall
The Springfield North WIC program will hold an event for World Breastfeeding Week on August 2nd at 10:00 am at Court Square, Springfield City Hall. There will be give aways, snacks, information about the Springfield North breastfeeding peer counselors program.
Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week at Cooley Dickinson
Cooley Dickinson Hospital will be holding a World Breastfeeding Week event on August 4th from 2-4 pm in the main lobby. There will be informational tables, a display of past infant feeding devices, and a raffle.
Meet the doulas event at Cradle
The Green River Doula Network will be holding a "meet the doulas" event on Sunday, June 6th from 2-4 pm at Cradle. This event is free and is a great opportunity to come and find out more about what a birth or postpartum doula does, how they can help you and get any answers to your questions.
Breastfeeding Conference at Mercy Medical Center
The Family Life Center at Mercy will be holding a breastfeeding conference on September 30th, from 5:30 to 9:00 pm. The conference will include dinner, and CEUs will be available.
The topics are alternative feeding strategies for infants with special needs, and answering common breastfeeding questions and helping mothers overcome difficulties. The speaker is Irene Zoppi from Medela.

World Breastfeeding Week event at the Family Life Center, Mercy Medical Center
On August 3rd, the Family Life Center at Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, will hold a World Breastfeeding Week event, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m in the Family Life Center Lobby. Come and meet Stacy Rubin, IBCLC, author of “The ABC’s of Breastfeeding: Everything a
Mom Needs to Know for a Happy Nursing Experience.” Books will be available for purchase and signing. There will be free breastfeeding information, 10 percent off all Medela and Ameda breast pumps, and supplies. Maternity bra fitting clinic for Bravado and Medela bras - no appointment needed. Volunteers needed to staff the nursing mothers' station at the Big E.
Volunteers are needed to
staff the nursing mothers' station at the Big E, September 18 to October 4th. Anyone who can offer a 4 - 6 hour commitment will receive a free
entrance and parking pass. Bring a friend or spouse to help and get a
ticket for them as well. Children under 5 are free. Check out the

Nursing mother removed from bus; community responds

Nursing mothers sought for breast cancer study
Dr. Kathleen Arcaro at UMass Amherst is recruiting nursing mothers for two breast cancer studies. They are asked to donate a breastmilk sample and fill out a questionnaire, and receive $25 in thanks. She is currently looking for nursing mothers who:
- Are 25 or under and nursing
- Are in their mid-30's and nursing, and nursed a child in their mid 20's
- Have had, or are expecting to have, a breast biopsy, and are nursing

Massachusetts breastfeeding bill signed!
The bill by Senator Susan Fargo making Massachusetts the third to last state to provide protection for mothers nursing in public is now law! For more information, and the text of the bill, see the Massachusetts Breastfeeding Coalition website.
